My Process

01. Ideation: Metaphors & Magic

Every piece begins with the “why.” I dive into a project by identifying the core themes, symbols and ideas. At this stage I determine the heart of what the piece is trying to say. I accumulate a list of symbols that I can layer into the final piece to add conceptual depth and moody atmosphere.

02. Thumbnails: Turning Concepts Into Visual Storytelling

I translate ideas into visual storytelling. At this stage, I experiment with perspective, composition and contrast to turn ideas into something with visual panache.

03. Mixed-Media Work: Marrying Medium With Message

I get into the work of crafting the piece building it with a mix of draftsmanship and painting. Depending on the best fit for the project I may work in gouache, watercolor, pencil, ink or acrylic. Starting with physical medium brings a tactile, organic quality to the final product.

04. Digital Polish: Refinement & Delivery

I bring the physical layers into Adobe Photoshop to bring them together, refine the color palette, enhance the atmosphere and ensure that you will have a file that is prepared and ready to meet your requirements.
